The bet I placed while in Vegas for the Orioles to win the A.L. pennant.
I don't have great hopes of turning my $10 into $100 but after seeing the O's rock Pedro and the Red Sox last night on ESPN's Opening Night game I'm feeling a little better. Bosox fan and neighbor, Dens Crowley of Teendrama, blames the final score on Johnny Damon's "Castaway" look. Suckit, Lockhart.

Sites for a NASCAR Track in NY Metro Area
In other sports meanders, Rob Sterling sent me track suggestions for NASCAR in NYC as a follow-up to a question in the Young Manhattanite Interview of ESPN columnist Dan Shanoff on Gothamist. I still stick with my original proposal to re-pave/populate Williamsburg with some authentic rednecks and irony-free trucker hats.

1) Governor's Island is the perfect size and shape for a 1.5 mile oval loop track.

2) Liberty State Park in Jersey City has a large, undeveloped portion in the middle - currently a hazmat reclamation site but also about the right size for a track.

3) Flatten part of the Bronx. Really, no one ever suggests this sort of thing, but whenever there's a demand for a big project in South Jersey or the Philly suburbs, part of Camden is flattened to make room for it.

4) Brooklyn Navy Yard. I think it's a good idea. Raceway Park just doesn't cut it anymore.

Conversation overheard at Soho House after Duke's loss to UConn in the Final Four
Maryland Fan: Duke lost, yes! That makes me so happy.
Duke Fan: Whatever, Terps didn't even make into the Sweet Sixteen. But please tell me why there are such extreme levels of hatred for Duke.
Maryland Fan: Coach K's whining/winning ways, Dick Vitale's ass-kissing/ball-licking of all things Duke for starters but to put it bluntly, the student fans are incredibly annoying dorks.
Duke Fan: At least we don't throw batteries or plastic bottles at the mothers of opposing players.
Maryland Fan: Oh, bring up that old story again. Did you see the way she was sitting? She was asking for it!

If you like your Major League Baseball with some genuine punk rock cred...
Then check out Ben Weasel's site, Weasel Manor. He's really into this stuff and his insight is often interesting.
