Excerpt from "Shaman Noodles" #2 - Beanstalking
(Entry #1)

She sits with one hand on the wall and both eyes on me. Her free hand remains a prisoner, feeling locked in a tiny cell with only a metal toilet to keep company. A pillow positioned beneath her on a couch offers comfort where her thoughts can not. She glides her hand -- the good one -- "scarred" from junior high, along chipping paint and cracked lines of worst fit that zig-zag scattershot behind framed photographs and circle wildly around light switches. This wall, this apartment, our lives, will fall down one day and I mentally calculate the moment with simple regression as she tries to massage away a complex repression.

Soon, but not soon enough, she speaks out of turn and into my face. "Do you ever have that dream where you can't control the limitations and frustrations any longer, so you wander through open fields emptying refills far and wide in hopes of fertilizing a land, a movement that will take root and grow happy people like some modern medicated version of Jack and the Beanstalk?"

It's as if our minds were connected by firewire and Pfizer. I smile, making sure not to show teeth and rescue her hands by cupping them with my own, already hidden inside falconer's gloves. I lean in, sniff the asbestos from her hair, and whisper: "Honey, if by 'Jack' you mean Jackie from That 70's Show and if 'Beanstalk' refers to my..."
