I don't normally use this space to talk about things that actually matter in people's lives, but my brother sent around the following email that's very important to him so it's very important to me.
Dear Friends, Family, Co-workers:
I wanted to take a minute or two out of your busy schedules to let you know about a tragedy that occurred in our Verizon Family last week. Faye Green, a 16 year Verizon employee, was the victim of a violent crime. Faye held many positions within the company, from a maintenance installer to NOC Manager. At the time of her death, Faye was a senior network engineer in Baltimore, MD for DSL and Fast Packet Services.
Faye, a single mother, leaves behind 3 young children, a large extended family, and many, many co-workers and friends at Verizon. Faye's sister, Gina Hawkins, is also a Verizon employee. Gina works in my group as a specialist and is a great worker and good friend. Gina and her family have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support that has come from the Verizon Family. Verizon friends have cooked meals, visited with the family, and made contributions to a trust fund established for Faye's children -- Bryon (age 11), Brittoney (age 9), and Brooke (age 8).
I contacted the Verizon Foundation with the hope that they could match contributions. Unfortunately, the Verizon Foundation can only support non-profit organizations, not individual causes. If you are interested in making a contribution to this family, the details are listed below.
Thank you so much for your time,
Jason Krucoff

Altercations Led to Killing, Police Say
By Michael Amon

The Prince George's County woman charged with breaking into the Waldorf home of her sister-in-law and stabbing her to death this week had a history of harassing her estranged husband's family, according to police and relatives.
Tonya H. Rollins, 37, was arrested in Southeast Washington on Tuesday at about 1 p.m. on a fugitive murder warrant charging her with the stabbing death of Faye D. Rollins-Green, 34, who was found nearly 11 hours earlier lying in her bedroom suffering from more than 20 wounds and lacerations, Charles County sheriff's officials said.
Green, a mother of three, was pronounced dead at 3:38 a.m. at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, authorities said.
According to police and family, the stabbing was the latest and most serious in a series of altercations between Rollins and the family of her estranged husband, Leroy S. Rollins Jr., a D.C. police officer who had left his wife and their Upper Marlboro home in April 2003. Leroy Rollins is Green's brother.
Last summer, Myrtle Rollins, the mother of the victim, was granted a protective order against Tonya Rollins after she allegedly assaulted the 71-year-old woman, authorities and family said. Kim Rollins, a sister of the victim, said Tonya Rollins blamed her husband's family, including Green, for their marital problems.
Often, Tonya Rollins would show up unannounced at her in-laws' homes and demand to know where her husband was, Kim Rollins said.
"She's broken windows out of cars. She'll call all day. She's threatened to kill people here," Kim Rollins said. "You name it, she's done it."
Rollins was being held Tuesday in the District pending an extradition hearing Wednesday. Calls to her home were not answered.
According to charging documents filed by the Charles County sheriff's office, the bitter feelings boiled over when Tonya Rollins learned this month that her husband was staying at Green's townhouse on the 2600 block of Stanford Place. On Feb. 1, authorities said, Tonya Rollins broke one of Green's windows and jumped onto the hood of her husband's vehicle.
The next day, Leroy Rollins confronted his wife about the incident but, according to charging documents, she said Green "was the source of their problems and she threatened to do bodily harm to [her]."
On Tuesday about 2:30 a.m., Tonya Rollins came back to Green's home and confronted her, authorities said. During a fight, she stabbed Green multiple times with a knife and was also injured herself, authorities said.
Tonya Rollins's children told police she came home covered in blood and went to a hospital for treatment, according to charging documents. Authorities said they were unsure how she was injured.
When authorities arrived at Green's home, they found three children -- two girls ages 8 and 10, and an 11-year-old boy -- and their mother lying in the master bedroom, a knife still embedded in her torso, authorities said.
Green worked as a manager for Verizon for 16 years and was a devoted single mother, Kim Rollins said.
She moved to Charles County three years ago for the low housing prices and good schools, her sister said.
