Burning Down The Hös
Today is my last day of saving lives, wearing ties, and fabricating lies in a hospital environment. I am proud to report not one person died, suffered any third degree cigarette burns or complained about second-hand smoke inhalation on my watch at 320 E. 94th Street. This was quite an accomplishment when you consider the building is home to the Adolescent Health Center and various administrative offices staffed mainly by outer-borough women in their 30's and 40's.
Looking back on my 1.75 years as a healthcare professional, and fire safety practitioner, I will never forget the two single greatest pieces of wisdom passed on to me:
1. Patients are not merely "vessels of disease."
2. There is no such thing as a "survey research emergency."
With that I boldly (and blindly) look forward to half-time employment with Gawker Media in one capacity or another. Among other things, I will continue my weekly Data Dump contributions and start up a daily interview feature on Gawker after taking a short break now that
my Gothamist run is over.
Since my salary is performing a really awesome time-travel trick (ohh, going back 10 years or so) I also desperately need to find freelance that pays actual money or even food. I'm open to creative negotiation and my rates are flexible. Four bananas or two apples or one McChicken sandwich per word sounds reasonable to me. This should all be very interesting since my skills are limited, talent is superficial, and clips are non-existant. I'm prepared to try anything that doesn't involve wearing specialty clothing.
