R U IN 2 IT?

Lockhart Steele, first man with a 4-year college degree to step foot on the Lower East Side has now taken another giant leap for all of technocracy by planting his mono-chromed colored flag into the salty earth of text messaging. We hope to be offered this curious two-way realtime communication service for cellphone users once it is extended beyond the special beta test users. (We can only assume it is confined to a select few, much like Google’s Gmail service.) Since Lockhart’s long history of community activism includes bringing FreshDirect grocery delivery to malnourished areas of the Lower East Side, I am hoping he will champion the Text Message Proliferation cause too.

In related news: Verizon charged me with 1,228 text messages last month which is fuckin’ absurd. I text a lot but averaging 40 a day?? Dodgeball might be adding to the toll but that ain't porn. They refuse to give me a detailed analysis of the charges but tell me, quite assuredly, “we double-checked with tech support.” Yeah, well fuck you. It seems illegal, or at least dangerous precedent, to require payment for a service that cannot be itemized for the consumer. They said it would require a court affidavit to see the breakdown. In the last conversation I had with them I threatened to get one of the local tv news teams on my side. Unfortunately, that would require effort on my part but I urge you all to take up the fight. Write your Congressman!! Write Lockhart! Repeatedly.
