The First 100 Interviews: "How much did I do?"
Former NYC mayor Ed Koch used to ask "how am I doing?"
and politicians are often judged by their first 100
days in office. As far as milestones go in publishing,
this is pretty insignificant but there have been 100
Young Manhattanite Interviews on Gothamist since the
feature launched in February.
Served up one a day Mon-Fri, Chris Gage and I have
(often ignorantly) asked questions of: friends,
actors, school teachers, small business owners, the
unemployed, bartenders, writers, life-long New
Yorkers, many transplants, musicians, technologists,
artists, a security guard, and media whores. Oh yeah,
the media whores. I'm sorry if you don't enjoy that
bias but such is the nature of the medium and my
interests. There isn't much to wax on about here but I'm proud that in a relatively short amount of time we've gone from Lockhart Steele to Tina Brown - may those two names never be said together in the same breath again.
But back to the original question, how have we done?
Well we still haven't solved the world hunger problem,
found a cure for cancer or AIDS, made peace in the
Middle East, legalized prostitution or eliminated
hate-mongers from the face of the earth as promised in
campaign stumps but it's early, folks. Give us time.
Thanks for checking this stuff out. We hope the next
100 are as interesting as the first.
