Rubber Sole - "8 Songs You Haven't Heard" Demo
Re-release Date: 12/21/2004
Rubber Sole was a band from the "other" Bay area, Chesapeake, comprised of four guys from Annapolis, MD who played pop-punk about girls in the same vein of the hundreds of other bands hooked on the Descendents/All and the thousands who wore black chucks out of respect for the Ramones. Released on their own
Sneezeguard Records in 1992, "8 Songs" might not differentiate itself from the slew of stuff coming out of basements and playing firehouse halls at the time but these guys were close friends of mine so it at least means something to me and a handful of others.
My favorite track is
"Egg Girl" written by Eric Jackson who wasn't in the band. He was a couple years younger than me, lived down the street, got me into Jawbreaker, Green Day, Crimpshrine, Samiam, etc in '88, and even talked me into paying five bucks for an Operation Ivy t-shirt he made with a sharpie. My dad still embarrassingly wears it while jogging around Crofton Parkway.
Where are they now? Guitarist/label honcho Bobby Borte bought a huge loft in West Baltimore (think Major Colvin's Hamsterdam in "The Wire"), singer/guitarist Darron Holck lives in Ocean City, MD and still plays music but hopefully not for happy hours at
Seacrets, bassist Mark Minnig made the move to Brooklyn and plays in
Kid Casanova (yep, Buzzcocks reference), and the last I heard of drummer Pete Hurst he was working for Toys-R-Us in a mid-management position and no longer held a fascination with the cowbell.
Side 1: Accident Prone/3 Part Jam/Ajax/White Dwarfs
