The Other Page: Print, PDF, Punk Re-issues

Update: We are now venturing into music label territory by re-releasing pre-1994 punk/indie under the TOP Music imprint as free MP3 editions. Much like re-issue labels such as Rhino we want to preserve music and extend it to an audience who might not have had a chance to hear it the first time around. We are concentrating on demos, basement tapes, and out-of-print cassette-only releases from now defunct or never-been record labels. Our obvious influences and tastes have an admitted bias to what MRR was covering in the late 80's and early 90's. More background here. End Update.

Sitting around TOP HQ is an experience best described with peanut butter covered hands and a rag of ether smothered in your face. We do very little but we discuss many things: the 70's, password protecting a site for no reason whatsoever, Granta 64/Russia - The Wild East, dune buggies and the low flying helicopters that chase them, autoerotic asphyxiation with Kabbalah red string, the voting patterns of Connecticut's 4th Congressional District, and publishing models doomed to fail (i.e., The Right Idea, Not Enough Readers SyndromeTM).

With the last item in mind, we publicly announce today our plans to take The Other Page offline and re-launch as a monthly letter bomb (or, "news-torah" if you dream like us) that will be home-delivered to subscribers. We're talking about the strong arms of the U.S. Postal Service, not the flimsy limbs of "Hypertext Transfer Protocol." (Update: Okay, that didn't really work so now it's available only as PDF's. You still gotta print the sucker.) Take a few minutes and let that sink in. Ready when you are, let's continue. So what's the cost of this new venture? Fortunately nothing for you, subscriptions are as free as a day without underwear. For us, egos and peer standing remain huddled in a raft on a dark, stormy night somewhere off the coast of Staten Island. We just crapped our pants. Folks, throw us a line.

Writers from some of the Internet's most trusted brands are participating: LasagnaFarm (lead partner), HifiNY, Dynatrite, and a Jewish grandmother who will contribute the "Media Bubbe" column. There will be many guest writers as well, some who have actually been paid to be in print before and all with better credentials than the aforementioned names.

[Yes, we realize when boiled down this is just a bunch of dudes over 30 putting out a monthly two-page fanzine but if you repeat those words we (have friends who) will kick the living shit out of you. But seriously, our logo is a hippopotamus in the crosshairs of a gun. We mean fuckin' business.]

Please take a poke, humor us and we'll try our best to do the same in return.
